Social Sciences Alumni & Friends

The School of Social Sciences at UC Irvine was founded in 1965 with a commitment to interdisciplinary research, education and service. In its short history, it has achieved nationally and internationally recognized levels of excellence. Social sciences joins UCI's School of Physical Sciences and the Medical School as among the top 50 globally, according to the Times Higher Education World University rankings. Of social sciences’ six core Ph.D. programs, two are in the top 10, three are in the top 30 and one is in the top 40. Undergraduates are central to the school’s mission; in the classroom and through formalized research, students work alongside faculty experts pursuing a rigorous academic curriculum within the school’s highly ranked anthropology, Chicano/Latino studies, cognitive sciences, economics, international studies, logic and philosophy of science, political science and sociology programs.

Whether the focus is on investigating how changes in employee wages can affect the national economy or the innovative ways in which the global spread of democracy is being advanced, the work of UCI social sciences impacts the world around us.

As an alumnus and/or community friend of the Social Sciences, we hope that you will take an interest in learning more about the School’s priorities, ways you can connect with our students, and/or give back to the school so that you, too, can make a difference.
